Intertain to Take Over Gamesys

It seems that Intertain Group have made a surprise move that no one in the gambling industry was expecting. Apparently the Canadian based gambling group have acquired the majority of popular gaming network Gamesys customer-facing items and assets in a deal that is reputedly worth up to £425.8 million.

The items claimed by the company in this high-value brand acquisition are said to be the real money areas of the Jackpot Joy bingo brand in its UK and Sweden-based sites. They also scooped up popular casino site, Spanish bingo company Botemania as well as a few of Gamesys social casino games like Jackpot Joy Social Casino and Social Starspins.

As part of this deal, Gamesys also agreed to a ten-year agreement to provide services to Intertain to allow them to run their new Jackpot Joy businesses without any problems.

According to Intertain’s CEO, John Kennedy, this deal was part of the companies plan to: “Focus on the female demographic in regulated markets.”

He continued: “We feel privileged to inherit this strong community of players. We’re also entering into a long-term relationship with one of the most respected gaming operators.”

What Will This Mean for the UK Bingo Industry?

So you may be wondering what this latest deal of a huge bingo brand moving to a Canadian based company mean for other UK bingo sites and the industry as a whole?

Well, it could mean one of two things!

For starters, it might mean that more UK bingo sites might get a lot of investment from other big international companies, which in turn will help them grow as a brand.

Whilst on the other hand, it could make these sites harder to control as they just might be running from locations based outside the UK. This in turn will make it more difficult for the Gambling Commission to ensure that these sites treat players fairly.

Although it’s this deal is still fairly new, we can’t say for sure that it’s going to lead to a lot of success for both parties involved in this deal. But, it’s still going to be an interesting few months as Intertain gets to grips with their new brands.
